My First Attempt at Making Black Bean Burgers

A little while back, we decided to eat only vegetarian meals for a couple weeks, and one of the meals I made were Black Bean Burgers. I found the recipe over at Sally's Baking Addiction, and thought it seemed pretty straight forward so I gave it a try. Making the patties was easier than I expected, but didn't quite turn out how theirs looked. Still good though.. Something I will try again in the future!

Ingredients Needed to Make Black Bean Burger Patties:

2 (14 ounce) cans of black beans
1 TBS Olive Oil
1/2 Bell Pepper Chopped
1/2 Large Onion Chopped
1 TBS Chopped Garlic (about 3 cloves)
1 1/2 tsp Ground Cumin
1 tsp Chili powder
1/2 tsp garlic Powder
1/4 tsp Smoked Paprika
1/2 Cup of Bread Crumbs
1/2 Cup of Feta Cheese (optional)
2 Large Eggs
1 TBS Worcestershire Sauce
2 TBS BBQ Sauce
A Pinch of Salt & Pepper

To begin, you drain your beans, place them on a cookie sheet and bake in the oven at 325°F for about 15 minutes, to let the beans dry out. This helps give them patties some texture. While the beans are baking, saute the chopped peppers, onions, and garlic in some olive oil, until soft. Once soft, dump them into a food processor, or large bowl, and add in the rest of the ingredients, mixing well. Once combined, pour in the black beans and start mashing everything together. A nice batter should start developing, and your patties are ready to be formed!

Once patties are formed, place them on a greased cookie sheet and bake them in the oven at 375°F, 10 minutes per each side. It is said that you can grill these patties too, I'll have to try that next time! My patties came out more mushy than I wanted them to be, and seemed to take longer to cook, so next time I will do things a little differently, but overall the flavor was pretty good, they were easy to make, and I can see myself replacing meat burgers with these ones, easily!
