With My Eyes Wide Open - Book Review

With My Eyes Wide Open by Brian "Head" Welch is an amazing read on the life of a Rock Star in the band called KoRn. Brian was slowly losing his life and everything around him to the addiction of drugs and alcohol. Until miraculously, he experienced a life-changing spiritual awakening that freed him from his addiction, and caused him to leave his band back in 2005. In the time of leaving, he experience a decade-long "trial by fire". He experienced the trial of fathering his teen daughter who was lost in depression, he attempted to play music solo, and he survived the betrayal of his most trusted friend. Brian lived a hard redemption period, but it was a good time of reflection on his life. He later decided to return to his musical roots and rejoin with his band KoRn. But this time in a more positive route, with a clear head and a devoted heart.

When I first saw this book available to review, I knew I had to read it. As a teenager, you could find me in my room with the music of KoRn blasting from my speakers while I wrote depressing poems about life. I listened to their words as they reached into my soul, allowing me to feel emotions I never knew were even there. Fast forward to about a decade and some later (wow that makes me feel old haha) I come across this book and I was so pleased to read it. Hearing about Brian's life, the choices he made, and the eye opening experience he walked through was such a great read. I love the way of his writing, how it flows with the serious stuff he face but also in how he uses humor to get by. Reading about his life stories make it feel like you get to hear him speak about it in person. If you were ever a lover of KoRn, or really any metal music, this is a great book for you to read! I am glad I got the chance to.
