You can use this mask in two ways. For Hot Therapy: You begin by misting the mask with water and microwave it on high for 30 seconds. Be sure not to overheat. The heat will last approximately 10 minutes, which is the perfect amount of time, as you don't want to leave it on for too long.
For Cold Therapy: Place the mask in a Ziploc bag and leave it in the freezer for 1 to 2 hours. You can also try leaving it in the freezer overnight to really experience how refreshing it is for the eyes.

I love the strong, yet not overpowering scent of the lavender in this eye mask. Its smell is soothing and relaxing, and wonderful when cool. The first day I received it, I used it at night as I was falling asleep. I loved the cool sensation mixed with the smell, calming me into a relaxing sleep. The silky pouch is soft on your skin, with no irritations. The only downside I found, was the mask only stays put if you're lying flat on your back. I'm a side sleeper so trying to keep the mask on my face without it sliding off the sides was difficult. I think this problem would be fixed if the pouch was just a tad longer or if they added straps to the sides, that could be held together by Velcro, to hold the mask in place. Other then that, I really enjoy using this mask. It soothed my headache, and the aroma is one of my favorites.
