Does This Church Make Me Look Fat is a book written by Rhoda Janzen,
who also wrote Mennonite in a Little Black Dress.
Rhoda, Grew up as a Mennonite, but hadn't really been in church since she was 12. Until she meets a religious Pentecostal man and falls in love, she begins going to church with him. She finds there's quite a difference between the two religions and often relates back to other in the book. Rhoda talks of the journey she goes through; finding God, being in love again, and dealing with issues in breast cancer.
I had a difficult time getting into this book. It never really stroke an interest for me. I did find a part of the book to keep with me though. Rhoda wrote "Altered circumstances give us only the opportunity to change. We actually have to do the work. We have to make the decision to gets things moving, and then we actually have to move them. We can't sit around and wait for other people to do our work for us. We can't even sit around waiting for God to do our work for us." This is a great piece because we really do have to step up and make things happen how we want. yes, sometimes what we want doesn't happen, but we have to get it moving. I especially like the first sentence "altered circumstances give us only the opportunity to change." That sentence is a great answer for the questions we ask,
as to why something happens. It happens to give us the opportunity to change.
This book, "Does This Church Make Me Look Fat" , I feel is only for certain target audiences, maybe the older crowd? I'm not sure. Though I'm thankful to have had the chance to review it,
It is a book I will pass on keeping.
This post is made possible by Global Influence network by providing me the book, in exchange for my review.
Sounds like a fun read! Thanks for the giveaway.
