Building Family Ties With Faith, Love & Laughter,
a book written by Dave Stone-a pastor, husband and father of three.
In all honesty, I had a hard time getting in to this book. I found that
it bored me some, so I ended up re-reading it for a second time, to find
a better interest in it. This book, as the title says, is all about how to build strong ties with your family and raise them up to what they are called to be. There are many scriptural references and great tips on guiding your family, as well as some fun stories involved. One of my favorite quotes from the book, which was quoted by someone else is: "If you plant apple seeds, it will be an apple tree that emerges from the soil-not an orange tree. Trust that what you planted will develop." This speaks to me, as I have my own issues in trusting, so this quote serves as a great reminder to put your faith into your actions.
Another piece of the book that stuck with me, is the end. Saying "If you want to have a home that's marked by peace and joy and family togetherness, you have to take to heart the expectation of being a positive and purposeful parent. You have to start now." I really like this because I want my home, my family, to always be joyful and love being together. It's my life long strive to have the happy family and to keep it that way. My son is only five right now, but I know time flies-as I have been experiencing this already! {he will be a kindergartener next month!}And as I look ahead and realize, 16 days from now, I will be dropping him off at his first day of school, his first real experience away from me (other then being with his grandma very rarely) it will be difficult to let go, but as Dave writes "If you think it will be difficult for you to release your children, can I let you in on a secret? It's a lot easier when you put into practice the lessons of this book." I know he is talking about the far future, when children move out, but I do know, that what I've {and my husband} sown into my son, these past 5 years,{As well as what we continue sowing!} he will be taking it with him into school, to his first day of kindergarten,
and for the rest of his life.
If you're looking for more information on how to build a better foundation with your family,
